A look back at dog trade in Germany 80 years ago

At the end of the 19th and until about the middle of the 20th century, there were some large dog breeding and dog trading companies in Germany. They regularly published catalogues from which one could order puppies as well as adult pedigree dogs – the delivery was then made by post or express (train). Here are a few pictures from two such catalogues (unfortunately there were no dates on them, it is estimated that they date from between 1925 and 1945). Some of the pictures from one catalogue were heavily retouched. Moreover, the dogs in the photos were not the animals that were actually for sale, but only exemplary illustrations of the respective breed.
